Hi there

My name is

Michael E. G. Marks

Born and raised in Georgetown,
Guyana, I attended St. Mary's R.C. Primary School and Queen's College.  I received  my  B.A.  Degree in 1978  majoring in Spanish with a minor in French , at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen, Guyana. I later received my Diploma in Education  in the Teaching   of   Modern Languages in  1982.

I taught for 9 years in Guyana, 8 of them at Bishops High School, then I moved to the Bahamas where I taught Modern Languages at St. John's College from 1983-1986.   I then moved to S.C.McPherson    Secondary    School   as  Head  of the Department of Modern Languages between 1986-1997. Then, in 1997, I was transferred to Government High as Head of Modern Languages, where I am presently posted

I am also a part time instructor in Spanish at Grosvenor Academy, a private institute specializing in language and enrichment courses, where I have taught since 1994.

I was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the BGCSE Spanish examination, in which, from 1992 until recently, I have variously filled the role of marker, setter and Chief Examiner.  I am an active member of the Bahamas Modern Language Association.

My hobbies include the Classical Guitar and Parang music, two ventures in which I am currently actively engaged as teacher and/or performer.  I also spend much time devising and refining  personal computer solutions, and have also had a hands-on  interest in stagecraft.
